Best Prayer - Graveyard Keeper

There are a dozen different prayers available in the game. Some are good, some have very specific uses and some are completely bugged.

In this guide, I'll go over the different prayers one by one, from best to worst.

Combo prayer

Increases faith by 50%/100%/150% and donations also by by 50%/100%/150%.

The best prayer in the game combines the benefits of prayer for faith and prayer for donations. There is no downside here and once you unlock it later in the game, you'll probably spend the rest of the game using it.

Prayer for prosperity

Creates a Blessing of commerce which can be given to any vendors to increase the reputation and unlock additional tiers of goods.

I find this one incredibly useful in the early game. Do it maybe 3 or 4 times to increase the reputation at a few key NPC's like for example the Merchant, the Astrologer or Clotho. Then you can buy a lot of items that will make your life easier.

Prayer for protection

Decreases the damage received by monsters by 4 for a duration of 4 (copper), 8 (silver) or 12 (gold) in-game days.

This combat buff is very strong as the armors in the game reduce damage by either 2 for the iron armor or 5 for the steel armor. By stacking this buff over a steel armor, most monsters only deal 1 damage to you, and you're almost reducing by 50% the damage received from the strongest monsters.

Prayer for faith

Increases faith by 50%/100%/150% and donations by 20%. You'll have to use this one for a few weeks in the early game to gather enough faith for quests.

Prayer for imagination

Increases the quality of all writing by 70%.

The 70% number says it all, it's hard to beat. You rarely have to write in the game though. So the prayer is ranked a bit lower due to the niche use.

Prayer for retribution

Increases the damage dealt to monsters by 5 for a duration of 4 (copper), 8 (silver) or 12 (gold) in-game days.

This is a good buff to take before a dungeon run as 5 fixed damage is pretty high. The buff is equal to the damage of the worst weapon in the game, the rusty sword, and to 20% of the best weapon in the game, the damask sword with gem.

So you're increasing your damage by 20% to 100%. I rank it lower than the protection one unless you're able to dodge most of the hits.

Prayer for donations

Increases donations by 50%/100%/150% and Faith by 20%.

I'd rank it below prayer for faith as faith is more useful in the early game and by the time you need donations, you'll have the combo prayer.

Prayer for excellence

Increases the quality of most crafting by 20% for a duration of 2 (copper), 4 (silver) or 6 (gold) in-game days.

Casual prayer

Gives a tiny amount of donations and faith. Better than nothing!

Prayer for repose

Increases the with more white skulls and red skull on corpses bought by the donkey. The official wiki says the buff is broken and has no real effect.

Guess we'll skip this one!

Prayer for shoots and roots

Increases the yield and growth rates of crops by an unknown amount.

But surprise, guess what? It's also broken!

Prayer for repentance

Increases the number of people which use the confessional in your church during the week by an unknown amount.

Doesn't sound great and anyway, it's also bugged.
